Brancolini Grimaldi opened a new gallery space this April 2011 on Albemarle Street, in central London. The gallery aspires to showcase innovative artists who merge photography with other media such as performance, installation and video art. By responding to this direction, Brancolini Grimaldi will introduce a more conceptual context, giving photography another dimension and redefining the future of the medium in the way it is both displayed and experienced.
In addition to pursuing relationships across different contemporary art forms, the gallery also gives special attention to making connections between different generations of artists. Considering bodies of work by artists from the 1960s and 1970s, ranging from South America to Central Europe, the gallery will also exhibit the work of those artists who embodied similar philosophies and were groundbreaking for their own eras alongside their contemporary counterparts.
Brancolini Grimaldi is proud to represent the work of Massimo Vitali.
His photographs examine every-daily life and the trend of vacationing in places of mass tourism. Massimo Vitali observes crowds with an attitude of disregard, consciously not forming a photographic composition with the camera, but rather letting it form itself. The large format images allow Massimo Vitali to inquire about the reality of each individual scene, thus truthfully illustrating the details of our social behavior. Brancolini Grimaldi in collaboration with Steidl has recently published the Natural Habitats Special Edition by Massimo Vitali.
Natural Habitats Special Edition consists of the volume Natural Habitats, signed and numbered by the artist, plus an original contact print photograph 20 x 25 cm (7.8 x 9.8 inches).
The edition is available in 3 versions (100 copies each + 20 Artist Proofs).
The c-print photographs that accompany the edition are brand new, unpublished images from Vitali's most recent series taken in Puglia in the summer of 2010. These 3 images are available only as part of the limited edition Natural Habitats which contains seventy photographs spanning from 2004 to 2009.
Natural Habitats is presented in a custom made, cloth bound portfolio box that contains a signed and numbered book and includes a signed and numbered c-print 20 x 25 cm, mounted under plexi on aluminum. One image is chosen from the selection of 3 each made in a run of 100 copies each (+20APs).
